Our Client, a not for profit organization in New York City is seeking an experienced Accounting/Finance professional to join their staff as their new Financial Controller. The Financial Controller will be responsible for preparing all company accounting, monthly, quarterly and annual reporting, forecasting and analysis, budgeting, and cash management that follow regulatory and accounting guidelines.

Essential Duties

  • Working closely with executive staff to build the annual forecast, develop budget projections based on growth strategies
  • Preparation of financial statements, monthly reporting packet, and materials for annual audit in compliance with official guidelines
  • Helping with the development of reports for management, including reports providing the latest information on revenue, cash flow position, aged receivables, payables, payroll and interest expense
  • Assisting in developing contract and product pricing
  • Handling journal entries and reconciling accounts for the monthly and annual closing
  • Managing the cash flow statements, including accurate reconciliation of the bank accounts
  • Set standards for and track monthly revenue recognition
  • Creating a monthly internal audit file for review
  • Preparing budgets or forecasts, including the rolling weekly/monthly forecast, and adhoc financial reports at the request of the business, as needed
  • Overseeing company bookkeeper who is responsible for invoicing (accounts payable and receivable)
  • Formulating and establishing internal quality controls and policies within the company Accounting Manual to comply with established best practices
  • Assisting with other duties, as needed


  • 5-10 years of hands-on Accounting / Finance experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business and/or a related field
  • Solid knowledge of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and regulations
  • Exceptional knowledge of Accounting and Financial processes (budgeting, financial closure, reporting )
  • Solid understanding of Data Analysis and Forecasting
  • Working knowledge of Accounting software (i.e., Quickbooks)
  • CPA or parts passed (not required)
  • Microsoft Excel proficient
  • Solid analytical, mathematical, and research skills
  • Great interpersonal skills
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Highly organized
